Fabrizio Romano reveals£64m star who only joined last summer could leave Arsenal

A striker who cost a record fee is never far from a rumour when the minutes dry up. Twenty-nine league minutes into a new season is enough for the same clubs that asked in June to ask again.

The selling club’s first answer is usually no. The second answer, a year later, depends on whether the player is still first choice.

Spain is where those calls came from last time. A physical No.9 who works the channels is still a type those sides buy.

Fabrizio Romano says Viktor Gyokeres is not untouchable, even though Arsenal shut the door last summer. The Sweden forward signed from Sporting CP in a deal that could reach about £64million and scored 21 goals in 55 games last season.

Kai Havertz has started the league games this term. Gyokeres has 29 Premier League minutes.

“Well, it’s not been an easy start of the season for Gyokeres in the sense that the game-time has been limited,” Romano said.

“So obviously there are already people talking about what’s going to happen with Gyokeres, what’s going to be the future for Gyokeres.

“What I can tell you is that in the summer there were clubs interested in Gyokeres. Clubs but really top, top clubs, especially from Spain asking about the situation of Viktor Gyokeres.

“The answer from Arsenal was always the player is not for sale. We trust Gyokeres we want Gyokeres to stay.

“So Arsenal always maintained the position they don’t want Gyokeres to go.

“Okay, the start of the season has been complicated but they maintain at the club that they expect Gyokeres to be very important, especially when the games are going to be tense, complicated… you might need a physical striker like him.

“So at this stage, Arsenal remain very happy with Gyokeres. Then we have to see, in one year I cannot predict the future.

“If there is a right club with big money who try to tempt the club and the player, that could be a different story.

“I’m not saying that Gyokeres is untouchable. I’m saying that Arsenal closed the doors in summer 2026, but 2027 is another story.”

That matches the earlier Standard line that Juventus, Milan and two Saudi clubs have been watching. Romano’s version is more precise: top Spanish clubs asked, Arsenal said no, and the no lasts for this window.

He is with Sweden during the break, against Romania, Poland and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Goals there would change the noise faster than a quote about 2027.

For now the club line Romano is hearing is simple. They want him. They expect him to matter when the fixtures tighten. They will not sell this season. Next summer, if a rich bid arrives and the minutes have not, the answer might change.
