New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart is expected to have season-ending surgery, per a report from Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.
Rapoport reports that Dart’s ACL is intact and he is expected to make a full recovery, however his season is over. He adds that Dart has been seeking second opinions on his injury, however it seems as though surgery is his best path forward.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that while Dart’s ACL is fine, he suffered damage to his MCL, PCL, and meniscus. The primary issue, per Schefter’s report, is the damage to Dart’s meniscus. The meniscus is a rubbery piece of cartilage in the knee that acts as a cushion and shock absorber in the joint.
A torn meniscus may be treated through rest and rehab, however more severe injuries need surgery. That said, it’s reassuring that Dart’s prognosis is good despite the need for surgery, as the Giants still expect Dart to be their long-term answer at quarterback.
Having clarity on Dart’s prognosis and timeline allows the Giants to come to grips with the fact that they’ll be without their starting quarterback until 2027. Now they’ll need to rally around Jameis Winston and adapt to his skill set.
