Free-agent guard Lonzo Ball has pushed back on reports that his NBA career is over, making it clear that he is still hoping for another opportunity.
"I retired? News to me lol cuz I'm still waiting for a call," Ball wrote on X. "NBA season long."
The response came after comments from Ball about his basketball career were widely interpreted as an indication that he was retiring at 28.
"I feel like I gave everything I had to hoop, and I feel like everything I got in my life is because of hoop," Ball had said. "I'm grateful to even make it to the league and be able to play for nine years."
Ball also acknowledged that his serious knee problems prevented him from reaching the level he believed he could have reached.
"I don't think I ever got to my peak, and damn, that shit sucks," he said. "But at the same time, there's people that don't have meals at night to eat. That's how I look at the world."
Ball appears to be available for an NBA opportunity
Ball is currently a free agent after spending last season with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Cleveland traded him to the Utah Jazz in February 2026 as part of a three-team deal, with Utah waiving him shortly afterward.
The 28-year-old has played nine NBA seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers, New Orleans Pelicans, Chicago Bulls, and Cavaliers since being selected with the No. 2 pick in the 2017 NBA Draft.
His career was significantly affected by a left knee injury suffered in January 2022.
Ball underwent multiple procedures, including a meniscus and cartilage transplant, and missed the entire 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons before eventually returning to the court.
