Stephen Curry gives another update on contract extension talks with Warriors image

Entering the 2026-27 NBA season, Stephen Curry remains the biggest star playing on an expiring contract with a chance to hit free agency in the Summer. However, Curry has maintained his commitment to the Golden State Warriors.
The four-time NBA champion has always said he wants to finish his career with the team that drafted him, and that hasn't changed even as he approaches the end of his career. Now that Curry is officially eligible for an extension, he has a decision to make about the kind of contract he wants to sign.
Still, until a the ink is dry, Curry will play on an expiring deal and put some pressure on the Warriors to get an extension done. Here is what Curry has said about his contract status before the season begins.

Stephen Curry is eligible for an extension as he is set to his free agency in the Summer, but the star point guard is not sweating negotiations.
"It's going to happen at the right time, once I have all the information I need to make the decision that is right," Curry told ESPN. "The team's been great having that conversation back and forth. If I don't sign, it won't affect me in terms of my play or carrying that weight. But I'll make the decision when I'm ready."
Curry is eligible to sign a two years and $136.7 million extension with the Warriors, but he can certainly take less if he so chooses. ESPN's Anthony Slater reports that the Warriors gave him several different offers, but he is still considering all the options.
Curry has been adamant that he wants to finish his career with the Warriors, taking pressure off the team as they navigate talks. Curry mentioned the complications of the different kinds of contracts he can sign while also saying the spot Golden State is in moving forward will impact the contract he signs.
"All the different salary cap conditions of whether I sign for a max or less or whatever it is, I want to be on a competitive team. I want to have an opportunity to have some flexibility because we haven't had that in years past, the recent past," he said. "This team should have flexibility to make necessary moves if things happen. Those are always just the considerations. For me, information and patience is key. It's just a very unique situation all the way around based on where we've been the last four years, where I'm at in my career, what our team looks like this year and the absolute desperation to win. Trying to balance all that."
Last week, Curry told CNBC that LeBron James' free agency this past Summer had no impact on his decisions, and that he remains committed to Golden State.
"I've always stated that I wanna be a lifer with Golden State," Curry said. "My interest and mission is to stay in Golden State and be competitive; the contract stuff will take care of itself."

Curry is playing this year on a one-year, $62 million extension that was added to his four-year, $215 million contract that just expired. He is set to cross the $500 million mark this year, which will make him the third player in NBA history to make that much money.
