A 28-6 blowout loss to the Los Angeles Rams cost the New York Giants much more than just an “L” in the loss column.
Star quarterback Jaxson Dart suffered a knee injury on a crunching hit from several Rams defenders and was forced out of the game. While he attempted to come back into the game later, medical imaging showed the quarterback suffered damage to his MCL, PCL and meniscus, according to ESPN.
NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported that Dart is likely to undergo season-ending surgery to repair the damage. With Dart likely gone for the season, eyes turned toward a potential replacement.
Remove four-time Pro Bowler Derek Carr from the list.

Four-time Pro Bowl quarterback Derek Carr was listed as a potential replacement for Dart, but the former Las Vegas Raiders and New Orleans Saints quarterback wants nothing to do with the NFL.
In a comedic post on social media Carr said, “Beautiful picture but I’m too busy trying to find a level 40 crew to join,” in response to a post wondering if the Giants should give him a call.

Derek Carr retired before 2025 season
In May 2025, Carr abruptly announced his retirement from the NFL after medical scans revealed a labral tear and had significant degenerative changes to the rotator cuff of his throwing shoulder.
Instead of undergoing surgery, the quarterback opted to retire from the sport after 11 years.
“Upon reflection of prayer, and in discussion with Heather, I’ve decided to retire from the National Football League,” he said in a statement at the time. “For more than 11 years, we have been incredibly blessed, and we are forever grateful and humbled by this experience. It’s difficult to find the right words to express our thanks to all the teammates, coaches, management, ownership, team officials and especially the fans who made this journey so special.”
New York will have to ride with Jameis Winston for now.
