MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - The Memphis Grizzlies teamed up with fans Wednesday to help the unhoused community.
Players and 200 volunteers worked together to hand out meals and personal hygiene supplies to people experiencing homelessness in Downtown Memphis.
The goal was to serve 400 meals and 1,500 hygiene bags. Participants also connected those in need with resources to help improve their situations.
Players who attended Wednesday’s day of service say the event was a way to give back to the community and connect with fans.
“Everything I receive, I want to give back tenfold to everybody around,” said Grizzlies forward Olivier-Maxence Prosper. “So doing that, a day like today is just a little part of what I can do, so yeah.”
“For one of the Grizzlies players, or, you know, a couple of us to come out here and just show face, you know, be with them, volunteer... it means a lot,” said Grizzlies forward Taylor Hendricks.
Any remaining supplies that were not handed out Wednesday were returned to community organizations to give away later.
