Graham Potter has detailed how much he plans on using Alexander Isak for Sweden during the extended international break, with the Liverpool striker coming off the back of an injury-ravaged season

Sweden boss Graham Potter has suggested he may select Liverpool's leading goalscorer Alexander Isak for all four fixtures during the forthcoming international period.

‌

Isak has enjoyed a bright start to the campaign with four goals across his opening five Premier League appearances, alongside an assist in the Champions League triumph over Atletico Madrid.

‌

The forward has already equalled his entire goal contribution from last season, when he struggled with fitness issues and injury following a British record $166M (£125M) transfer from Newcastle United. Not only that, but he has already nearly made as many starts as he did last season, having managed just 13 across all competitions during his first year at Anfield.

Isak, however, featured in five of Sweden's six matches during the summer, including all four at the World Cup where it exited at the last-32 stage against France.

And having already accumulated six starts this term - completing the full 90 minutes on three separate occasions - Isak is now being lined up for consistent involvement in Sweden's upcoming UEFA Nations League encounters against Romania - both home and away - Poland at home and Bosnia and Herzegovina on their travels, reports the Liverpool Echo.

"It's not about rotating for the sake of rotating, as we want to win the games and try to play with our strongest team in every game," said Potter.

"Alex has played a lot of games lately, is in a good place and as I know him he wants to start games, but we need to see how everyone is, how they react and recover.

"Can Isak start every game? Potentially yes. But there's no chance (he will) play all the minutes."

At a media conference, Potter confirmed he had "not received any requests" from Liverpool regarding Isak's playing time.

Potter went on to add: "It's hard to plan anything ahead. You have to focus on the next game and try to win it. It's not easy to win games and the next game is always the most important game."

Liverpool.com says: You can't imagine Liverpool fans - or the club for that matter - will be too thrilled at the prospect of Isak starting every game for Sweden during the international break. If that does turn out to be the case, fingers crossed Potter doesn't push him too far, and he returns to Anfield unscathed.
