What Dak Prescott Was Thinking After Breaking Cowboys TD Record 1
Dak Prescott made Dallas Cowboys history Sunday, but the significance of his record-setting touchdown went far beyond football. After throwing his 249th career touchdown pass in a 37-20 victory over the Washington Commanders, Prescott’s thoughts turned to his late mother and the belief she instilled in him.
The milestone came on a 24-yard touchdown pass to CeeDee Lamb in the fourth quarter, moving Prescott past Tony Romo for the most touchdown passes in franchise history. Prescott finished the game with four touchdown passes and 279 yards, helping Dallas earn its first victory of the season while reaching another major career milestone.

Yet the record itself was not what Prescott focused on most after the game. He reflected on his mother, Peggy, whose encouragement remained a powerful part of his life and helped shape the confidence that carried him from a fourth-round draft pick to the top of the Cowboys’ passing records.
Prescott has now surpassed several legendary Dallas quarterbacks in the franchise record books, including Roger Staubach, Danny White, Troy Aikman and Romo. While he recognized the significance of joining that group, he also made clear that he still believes there is much more he can accomplish during his career.

The way Prescott reached the record also carried some extra significance because Lamb has become his most productive touchdown target. Lamb has caught 37 of Prescott’s 249 touchdown passes, making their connection an important part of the quarterback’s climb to the top of the franchise record book.
For Prescott, however, the achievement ultimately came back to the people who helped him believe such moments were possible. The Cowboys quarterback now owns the franchise record for touchdown passes, but his reaction showed that the personal meaning behind the accomplishment may matter more than the number itself.
