Ex-Toronto FC draft pick Brandon Aubrey is the best kicker in the NFL right now. So England captain and Bayern Munich star Harry Kane should be able to place a pigskin between the uprights too, right?
The 33-year-old, who is negotiating a new contract to keep him at the German club with Alphonso Davies beyond the end of this season, revealed to reporters at England camp on Wednesday that he has thought about ending his career doubling up between an MLS club and NFL kicking duties.
Kane has previously discussed going the professional golf route when his playing days are done, and has half-joked about trying out for the NFL in the past — he is a big New England Patriots fan and even named one of his dogs Brady. He joked Wednesday that the “NFL is a lot more realistic than the golf one, let’s put it that way.”

After it was clear his soccer career wasn’t going to work out — first at TFC and then with USL club Bethlehem Steel FC — Aubrey ended up developing as a kicker over several years of hard work while working as a software engineer. Kane would be switching from football to handegg much later in his career should he ever decide to actually pursue it.
Soccer players making the switch is rare, but not unheard of. Pro Football Hall of Famer Jan Stenerud was a soccer player in Norway, and the Cowboys previously won a Super Bowl with Toni Fritsch — who played over 120 times for Rapid Wien in Austria.
In Canada, Paul McCallum played soccer for St. Mirren and Hamilton Academicals in Scotland before an incredible 24-season CFL career from 1992 to 2016, mostly with the BC Lions and Saskatchewan Roughriders.

One of the game’s great penalty takers, Kane knows what it’s like to perform under pressure with everyone relying on him.
“It is a very similar pressure and technique,” Kane said. “If I did that, in terms of training, I would be closer to that more than to any other sport. But as I know, with all elite sports, when you watch it on TV, people make it look easy, and you think it is possible, but that is not always the case.
“If I was to do it, it is something I would take seriously. I would take six months to a year to try and practice before.”
Kane did say it’s not something he is pursuing now, and you can’t blame him. Since joining Bayern Munich in 2023 Kane has played 154 times and scored a ludicrous 152 goals, to go along with 34 assists, and has no signs of slowing down.
He also lit up this summer’s World Cup, including five goals in NFL stadiums, two of them at the home of the Cowboys — AT&T Stadium.

Any MLS, or NFL, teams that would approve such a thing would likely have to be owned by the same person to make it a realistic possibility. Currently three MLS and NFL teams share ownership of teams in the same city — the New England Revolution and Patriots, Charlotte FC and the Carolina Panthers and Atlanta United with the Falcons. A few others own teams in multiple locations — for example Stan Kroenke owning the Colorado Rapids and Los Angeles Rams.
Let’s be real, though. If the Revs and Pats come calling, it’s going to be them Kane chooses.
“Maybe if I am in the MLS in the future or somewhere like that it might be a thing where you could connect the two, with the seasons,” he said. “But it is in the back of my mind because right now, I am feeling that I want to play as long as I can here.”
We’re not sure what Kane thinks of the three-down Canadian football and a potential double-career with Toronto FC and the CFL’s Toronto Argonauts, but we can dream, right?
