FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WBAY) - A Fond du Lac artist is the man behind a costume familiar to Green Bay Packers fans.
Jeff Kahlow is known at Packers games as “Frozen Tundra Man.” At Lambeau Field, he takes pictures with fans in his handmade costume decked out in green and gold.
This is his 24th season taking on the role he originally made for a TV appearance.
Becoming Frozen Tundra Man

“If it’s a noon game, I get up at four or five in the morning,” Kahlow said.
Kahlow hot-glues icicles to his face to become his character, a process that takes two hours. His coat alone weighs more than 40 pounds.
“I don’t eat anything the day before. I don’t eat anything the day of the game until after I get the stuff caught off my face later at night. And then I go and I just, you know, pig out at a local restaurant or fast-food place or something like that,” Kahlow said.
From upholsterer to hat maker

Kahlow worked as an upholsterer in the 1980s. He now runs Big Guy Hats, where he handcrafts foam headgear.
“To date, I’ve carved over 29,000 hats. So, you know, still don’t have carpal tunnel, which is a blessing,” Kahlow said.
Kahlow has made hats for celebrities like Simone Biles, Tiger Woods, Toby Keith and Gordon Lightfoot to name a few.
Home opener plans

Frozen Tundra Man will not appear at Thursday’s home opener, but Kahlow said he will be there wearing one of his creations to support kicker Trey Smack.
“Tailgating to me is always the most fun because you meet so many people. It’s just, it’s so (much) picture-taking, so many people that you make happy. And that’s pretty much why I do it is because of the fans,” Kahlow said.
