The Chicago Bulls' resident box score baron, Josh Giddey, is a multi-skilled NBA guard. Some people consider him a point guard. His basketball upside is most prevalent as a combo guard. Multi-skilled Josh Giddey apparently has also expanded his skills in the digital media space.
Following the trend of Bulls teammates building YouTube audiences like Isaac Okoro, Giddey uploaded a video to his personal YouTube channel on Sep 20, 2026, that put the Bulls guard into a film breakdown session, covering the Bulls' last five minutes of their miraculous 119-117 home game victory over the Los Angeles Lakers during the 2024-25 NBA season, courtesy of a Giddey buzzer-beating three-point shot.
Overall, the video is insightful, and it’s worth a watch for any basketball fan. At the same time, watching the video is a lot like reading an NBA last two minutes (L2M) report that tells you a bunch of mistakes the referees made with no consequences levied against said referees.
The difference here, of course, is that the video ends up rehashing a lot of Josh Giddey's mistakes in the last 5 minutes (L5M?) of the game that occurred one too many times on the defensive end. To be fair, it definitely takes self-awareness and courage to publicly talk about your job mistakes, so respect to Giddey for being vulnerable on camera about his development areas.
Ultimately, going into the 2026-27 season, if Giddey is going to continue doing his best JJ Redick podcast impression, sans wine and LeBron James, then he’s going to also need to direct this rhetoric into real improvement inside the lines of NBA basketball courts on a nightly basis.
Giddey must connect his hoops IQ to results
Josh Giddey is a good NBA basketball player. We should frankly expect him to know when he’s late on a defensive rotation, rather than praising him for stating the obvious.
It matters less that he knows when he should have been more aggressive in digging into a passing lane, and instead we should all hope that Giddey has figured out a literal game plan for himself to shrink his team-defensive liabilities going into his third season in a Bulls uniform.
Specific to the game film Giddey chose to analyze in his YouTube clip, it’s also fair to remember that Giddey, despite his defensive limitations, was a cog in a poorly constructed roster by a dubious and deposed Bulls basketball roster architect, Arturas Karnisovas.
It’s cool to learn about which Bulls players are filling gaps, but let’s be honest: Nikola Vucevic and Kevin Huerter at the top of a defense, with LeBron James on-ball, does not need a film breakdown. We know Bron is frying Vooch and the Red Baron for an easy made basket.
So all this is to reinforce the point that Giddey's basketball IQ is solid, and what Bulls fans want even more is a more solid defensive effort from Josh Giddey for the entire 2026-27 NBA season.
