Quarterback injuries reshape NFL Week 3 odds

This season, Popular Bob will volunteer eight hours at a Humane Society shelter — walking dogs, petting cats and reading to them all — for each winning week.

He's currently nearing the end of the orientation process.

Dogs and cats across the city no doubt went wild late Monday night when the LA Rams covered the spread against the NY Giants, guaranteeing Popular Bob a winning record against the spread in Week 2.

Several injuries to high-profile quarterbacks last week have caused major changes on the oddsboards for Week 3 NFL action that opens Thursday night.

The biggest move involves Philadelphia's game at Chicago on Monday night, with the spread shift by six points after Bears QB Caleb Williams went down with a hamstring injury. He is listed as doubtful. Even his backup is questionable (concussion protocol).

On the early weather front, just like last week there is a chance of rain forecast at venues across the country, with Miami's home game against Kansas City listed as most likely for heavy precipitation.

Now for a look at all the games. (Odds are provided by teamrankings.com).

Thursday

--------

### Atlanta Falcons (0-2) at Green Bay Packers (1-1), 6:15 p.m.

Packers -5.5 (43 O/U)

Falcons QB Michael Penix Jr. is scheduled to return to the lineup for the first time since tearing his ACL in Week 11 last season. And, boy, is he needed. Both QBs used by Atlanta last week had passer ratings below the Mendoza line (39.6) in a 34-3 home loss to Carolina. But in good news, in 2025 teams that played the week after a loss of 30-plus points went 7-3 ATS.

Forecast: Packers 23, Falcons 20

Sunday

------

### LA Chargers (0-2) at Buffalo Bills (2-0), 11 a.m.

Bills -7 (50.5 O/U)

Buffalo has to be wary of looking ahead to next week's showdown with AFC East rival New England. LA, meanwhile, came away with back-to-back home losses to open the season against teams with 3-14 records last year. And in more negative facts regarding LA, the Chargers went 0-4 ATS (1-3 SU) crossing three time zones last season.

Forecast: Bills 35, Chargers 23

### Carolina Panthers (1-1) at Cleveland Browns (1-1), 11 a.m.

Panthers -2.5 (42.5 (/U)

The Panthers are coming off their rout in Atlanta, only the fourth time the past two seasons a road team won by 30-plus points. Meanwhile, Cleveland's Deshaun Watson gets to keep his QB job for at least another week after leading the Browns to a 23-19 victory at Tampa Bay. However, the Browns rushed for only 44 yards on 23 carries. Ugh!

Forecast: Panthers 27, Browns 17

### NY Jets (1-1) at Detroit Lions (1-1), 11 a.m.

Lions -6.5 (47.5 O/U)

The Lions' defense was atrocious when New Orleans and Buffalo had first-and-goal possessions against them the first two weeks, with both foes going 4-for-4 scoring TDs. No other league defense has had even one such game. As for the Jets, their overtime loss to Green Bay shows they aren't the pushover of past years.

Forecast: Lions 28, Jets 26

### Houston Texans (0-2) at Indianapolis Colts (0-2), 11 a.m.

Texans -2.5 (42.5 O/U)

The Colts just shattered the NFL mark for yards yielded the first two weeks of the season after giving up 506 to Baltimore in the opener and 523 more in an overtime loss to KC in Week 2. And Indy's offense is hurting with the absence of WR Alec Pierce (heel, IR), who had 1,003 receiving yards last year.

Forecast: Texans 28, Colts 13

### Kansas City Chiefs (2-0) at Miami Dolphins (0-2), 11 a.m.

Chiefs -11.5 (46.5 O/U)

Double-digit road favorites went 2-5 ATS last season. But none of those games involved QB Patrick Mahomes and KC. He should be extra comfortable against the only team in the league without a sack.

Forecast: Chiefs 30, Dolphins 10

### Tennessee Titans (0-2) at NY Giants (1-1), 11 a.m.

Giants -2.5 (39.5 O/U)

The spread has dropped from 5.5 with the news that Giants lost quarterback Jaxson Dart as the result of a severe knee injury Monday. Considering how awful backup Jameis "Interception King" Winston played in a reserve role it's a wonder Tennessee isn't favored.

Forecast: Titans 20, Giants 16

### Cincinnati Bengals (2-0) at Pittsburgh Steelers (0-2), 11 a.m.

Bengals -2,5 (42.5 O/U)

The Steelers have scored only one offensive TD this season and have allowed QB Aaron Rodgers to be bashed in the pocket. Can't see them keeping pace with the high-octane Bengals.

Forecast: Bengals 23, Steelers 13

### Seattle Seahawks (2-0) at Washington Commanders (0-2), 11 a.m.

Seahawks -7 (40.5 O/U)

Marcus Mariota gets the start at QB for Washington after Jayden Daniels' elbow injury. He went 2-6 as a starter in place of Daniels last year with a dreary 86.1 passer rating. As for Seattle, QB Drew Lock will be in the lineup for the second straight week after throwing for four TDs against Arizona.

Forecast: Seahawks 24, Commanders 14

### New England Patriots (1-1) at Jacksonville Jaguars (1-1), 11 a.m.

Jaguars -3 (45.5 (O/U)

The Patriots' pass protection has improved markedly this season with only one sack yielded in two games, quite a contrast to the record 21 they gave up in the playoffs. And it was the Jaguars ineffective pass rush that was a large reason for their loss in Denver last week.

Forecast: Patriots 20, Jaguars 17

### Arizona Cardinals (1-1) at San Francisco 49ers (2-0), 2:05 p.m.

49ers -8.5 (47.5 O/U)

Arizona had been counting on third overall draft choice Jeremiyah Love to help carry their offense this year, but he's had only 70 rushing yards on 20 carries. His high ankle sprain in the preseason could be hampering him.

Forecast: 49ers 38, Cardinals 13

### Minnesota Vikings (2-0) at Tampa Bay Bucs (0-2), 2:05 p.m.

Vikings -1.5 (42.5 O/U)

Vikings quarterback Kyler Murray returns to the lineup after missing last week in concussion protocol. Minnesota can use him. The Vikings did upset the Bears last week, but didn't score a TD on nine drives against a Chicago defense that allowed 37 points the week before.

Forecast: Vikings 26, Bucs 20

### Baltimore Ravens (1-1) vs. Dallas Cowboys (1-1), in Brazil, 2:25 p.m.

Ravens -3.5 (52.5 O/U)

The lambasted Cowboys defense just yielded 182 yards rushing to Washington at 5.7 per carry. Now Dallas will get to face Baltimore standout RB Derrick Henry. On top of that, Dallas' ability to defend the pass has taken a hit with injuries in the secondary. And speaking of injuries, Ravens WR Zay Flowers (hamstring) is supposed to return this week.

Forecast: Ravens 35, Cowboys 21

### Las Vegas Raiders (2-0) at New Orleans Saints (1-1), 2:25 p.m.

Saints -3 (43.5 O/U)

Las Vegas won its first two games despite being without standout TE Brock Bowers (knee), who is expected to play this week.

Forecast: Raiders 31, Saints 24

### LA Rams (1-1) at Denver Broncos (1-1), 6:20 p.m.

Rams -2.5 (45.5 O/U)

With the health status of Rams WR Pacua Nacua still a mystery, LA's passing game could be hurting against a stout Broncos pass defense that fended off Jacksonville's Trevor Lawrence last week.

Forecast: Broncos 23, Rams 21

Monday

------

### Philadelphia Eagles (2-0) at Chicago Bears (1-1), 6:15 p.m.

Eagles -4.5 (41 O/U)

Last week Chicago was a 1.5-point choice against Philadelphia. But now, not only is starting QB Williams likely out, but the same goes for backup Tyson Bagent. That leaves No. 3 guy Case Keenum the likely starter. But he's not bad. It seems odd the Eagles would be such a favorite despite being without star TE Dallas Goedert (knee). And last but not least, RB Saquon Barkley is questionable with neck and shoulder injuries suffered last week.

Forecast: Bears 24, Eagles 23

### Results

Last week's forecast results: 9-7 ATS/11-5 straight up

Season total: 15-16-1 ATS/20-12 SU
