Fans Shocked After After Legendary Head Coach Gets Married To Close
Gregg Popovich, the NBA legend and longtime San Antonio Spurs coach, has married Mary Barth Budenholzer, the former wife of Mike Budenholzer — the coach who spent nearly two decades working alongside Popovich in San Antonio.
According to a marriage license obtained by TMZ, Popovich and Mary exchanged vows on Sept. 16 in Texas. The license was filed in Bexar County.
Mike Budenholzer worked as an assistant under Popovich with the Spurs from 1996 through 2013, helping the franchise win five NBA championships before leaving San Antonio to become the head coach of the Atlanta Hawks.
It’s unclear exactly when Popovich and Mary began their relationship, but their paths had already crossed through the Spurs organization.

Mike and Mary quietly divorced in 2016. Two years later, Popovich’s first wife, Erin Popovich, died following an undisclosed severe illness.
Now, eight years after Erin’s death, Popovich and Mary are officially married.
The two were also spotted attending Spurs games together last season, so their relationship was apparently no secret around San Antonio.
