Newcastle United transfer target Antonio Nusa says he is fully focused on playing for RB Leipzig despite reports linking him with a move away from the Bundesliga side during the summer transfer window.

The Norwegian international turned heads with his performances for his country at the World Cup, and there were claims that Leipzig would have sold him if they had received a fee in the region of €60m (£51.5m). Speaking about the price tag and the speculation in general, Nusa said:

“Honestly, I’m not thinking about that at the moment. I’m very happy here at RB Leipzig. My job is to play good football… The sums being paid in the transfer market these days are sometimes crazy. That’s why I wouldn’t want to set my own price either. The valuation is not in my hands. And in the end, as a player, you have no control over it.”

“If a club says: €50 million, €60 million or €100 million – that’s not your decision as a player, but the club’s. You have to accept it and make the best of it, and not let it drive you crazy.”

Newcastle were one of 4 English clubs looking at the player

It is believed that the Magpies, Arsenal, Tottenham and Aston Villa were all weighing up bids for Nusa before the transfer window closed.

Ultimately, though, the 21-year-old stayed with Leipzig, and he has had a strong start to the campaign, scoring 3 goals and providing 2 assists in 6 appearances.

Nusa is unlikely to be a target for the Magpies in January

The Norwegian is a right-footed left winger, and head coach Matthias Jaissle already has Harvey Barnes and Bazoumana Toure for that position.

It is believed that sporting director Ross Wilson will be in the market for a player on the opposite flank in the New Year, so it would be a surprise if Nusa comes under consideration again.
