NFL Power Rankings: Where Do the Chiefs Rank After 2-0 Start? 1
The Kansas City Chiefs have opened the season 2-0 after another dramatic victory, strengthening their position among the NFL’s top teams. Their latest win over the Indianapolis Colts showed that Patrick Mahomes and the offense may be finding their familiar rhythm again.
Kansas City survived Indianapolis 33-30 in overtime Sunday night, although the performance was considerably more competitive than its Week 1 victory over Denver. The Chiefs still found a way to make the decisive plays, reinforcing the notion that their difficult previous season may have been an outlier rather than the beginning of a decline.

Mahomes provided the biggest reason for optimism in Week 2, throwing for 382 yards and three touchdowns while completing 68% of his passes. After a relatively modest opening performance, the quarterback looked much more comfortable attacking downfield and consistently created opportunities when the offense needed them most.
Travis Kelce also delivered an encouraging performance, finishing with nine receptions for more than 100 yards and a touchdown. Meanwhile, Kenneth Walker III has quickly become a major factor in the backfield, producing 369 total yards through Kansas City’s first two games and giving the offense another dimension defenses must account for.

The Chiefs weren’t as dominant against Indianapolis in Week 2 as they were against the Broncos in Week 1. The Colts gave Kansas City all it could handle Sunday night.
Even so, offseason reports of the demise of the Chiefs appear to have been greatly exaggerated. From all indications, the Chiefs are back.
After a modest Week 1, Patrick Mahomes scorched the Colts for 382 yards through the air and three touchdowns. Travis Kelce may not look like he’s 25, but my guy don’t look like he’s almost 37, either—Kelce caught nine passes and topped 100 yards. Running back Kenneth Walker III has been a revelation, with 369 total yards over the first two games of the season.
Kansas City’s next three games all appear winnable—at Miami and Las Vegas before a visit from the floundering Chargers. It’s entirely possible that when the Chiefs visit Seattle in Week 7, they’ll have as many wins as they had all of last season.
The Chiefs have also benefited from the ability to spread the ball around the field, creating more challenges for opposing defenses. Their upcoming schedule could provide another opportunity to build momentum, with road games against Miami and Las Vegas followed by a matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers, giving Kansas City a favorable stretch before its Week 7 meeting with Seattle.
At 2-0, Kansas City has already positioned itself as one of the league’s most intriguing teams after entering the season with questions about its future. If Mahomes continues playing at this level while Kelce, Walker and the rest of the offense maintain their production, the Chiefs could continue climbing the NFL power rankings as the season progresses.
