Everton linked with former Liverpool midfielder Tyler Morton ahead of January

Everton have been linked with former Liverpool midfielder Tyler Morton as clubs begin to look towards the January transfer window.

PitchsideDaily reports that the Blues are among several Premier League sides tracking the 23-year-old, with Newcastle United, Sunderland, Nottingham Forest, Crystal Palace and Brighton also named.

Liverpool are also claimed to be interested in bringing their former academy player back to Anfield. There is no suggestion at this stage that Everton have approached Lyon or opened talks over a move.

Tyler Morton impressing after Liverpool exit

Morton left Liverpool for Lyon in August 2025 after making 14 senior appearances for his boyhood club.

The midfielder has since become a regular in France and has featured 10 times across all competitions for Lyon this season, playing 789 minutes.

Morton also knows English football well. He spent full seasons on loan with Blackburn Rovers and Hull City in the Championship before leaving Liverpool permanently for Lyon.

The latest report puts Everton among the clubs watching his progress, although central midfield isn’t currently the most obvious area for David Moyes to strengthen.

James Garner, Hayden Hackney, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Harrison Armstrong give Moyes several options in that part of the pitch, while Everton’s lack of natural cover for Thierno Barry makes centre-forward a more obvious issue heading towards January.

A lot can change before the window opens and Morton’s name is worth noting given the number of Premier League clubs now being linked with him. At this stage, though, the claim goes no further than Everton tracking the midfielder.
