Liverpool got £30m new signing on a private jet two days after stopping his Real Madrid transfer

**Liverpool reportedly intervened to stop Lucca Brughmans from moving to Real Madrid, where he was wanted as the future Thibaut Courtois.**

Now, he is the future Alisson Becker.

Not bad company to keep at all. This should tell you everything about how exciting this young goalkeeper is.

Liverpool signed Brughmans from Genk in the summer, paying £30m and loaning him back to the Belgian side before he makes the move to Anfield to replace Alisson next summer. The Brazilian Liverpool No.1 is out of contract at the end of the season and, barring any late changes, he will take his leave from the Merseyside club after eight years and several trophies.

A new report from [the Daily Mail](https://www.dailymail.com/sport/football/article-16154567/liverpool-recruitment-matt-newberry-transfers.html) says that not only do Liverpool internally view Brughmans as one of the future best-in-class shot-stoppers, but they also stopped Real Madrid from signing him, who also believes the 18-year-old is a special talent.

The report states: _“Internally, the club believe Brughmans is the best young goalkeeper in the world. They feel the same about Ndukwe at centre half – and his talents were already evident in pre-season before he went on loan to La Liga side Levante._

_“Young keeper Brughmans had been taken to Real Madrid and was expected to follow in the footsteps of his idol Thibaut Courtois, until Newberry and Co intervened and sold him the pathway at Liverpool._

_“The club moved quickly and made their offer to Genk on the Sunday morning before transfer deadline day. By Monday morning, he was on a jet to Merseyside.”_

Standing at 6 ft 7, he is a giant among men, but his shot-stopping doesn’t suffer for it either, which is likely why Madrid wanted him as Courtois’ replacement, who is also 6 ft 7.

Giorgi Mamardashvili is a touch shorter at 6 ft 6, and he will need to take every chance he gets to prove he is good enough for Liverpool. Unfortunately for the Georgian, that’s up for debate right now.

While Brughmans’ move to Liverpool will only formally happen in the summer of 2027, he will be in close contact with the Reds the whole season, which will aid his transition to life on Merseyside.
