Bobby Webster was made available for the media today in a press conference to start the 2026-2027 season, and took the time to share some insight into the team going for a second title in franchise history.
“We have a first round pick in each of the next 4 years. That’s probably important to note… If we wanna go for it we definitely can still go for it. There’s probably still meat on the bone,” said Webster on the possibility of adding more to the team.
Now, the Raptors did make the playoffs this past season, finishing fifth in the Eastern Conference with a 46-36 record. However, the Raps fell short, losing in seven games to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
With the Raptors’ window starting to open, Webster made another surprising move by trading away leading scorer Brandon Ingram and former first round draft selection Gradey Dick alongside two unprotected first round picks, a first round pick swap, and two second round picks.
Now, while Webster noted there is the opportunity to add more to the team, it is important to note that the Raps are close to the first apron, and adding another player would most likely push the Raps above it.
However, Webster also touched on how ownership has handled all of the new moves and how they’ll impact future extensions, saying “Ownership has been very supportive. Financially, anytime we wanted to go for it they’ve been supportive,” so that is a good sign.
