The NFL showed once again why they are known as the “No Fun League” with a ridiculous fine for a San Francisco 49ers star who had a unique touchdown celebration in Week 2.
While it may not be for all football fans, there is a large segment of them who enjoy it when players showcase their personalities with special celebrations following touchdowns, sacks, tackles, and big gains. It is a modern element of the game that makes it stand out from other major sports.
However, the NFL has drawn the ire of fans and players for developing rules over the years to try to limit that sort of individualism. They have even gone as far as fining players for celebrations they felt were not in the best interest of sportsmanship.

This week, we got another example of that with a head-scratching fine for the 49ers fullback. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports the NFL fined Juszczyk $14,926 for engaging in an offensive demonstration following a TD in the team’s win over the Miami Dolphins this past weekend.
After rumbling into the end zone for a score in the third quarter, Juszczyk ended his celebration with what seemed like a gesture as if he were chugging a beverage (which can be viewed above). Well, the NFL didn’t like that.
“Your imitation of chugging a beer constituted an offensive demonstration and could reasonably be construed as being in poor taste,” the NFL wrote in its letter to the fullback regarding the fine. The 10-time Pro Bowler nicknamed “Juice” is reportedly appealing the fine.
Juszczyk’s gesture was such a small element of his TD celebration. The fact that the NFL even noticed the moment and decided it was worthy of action is another moment showing why the league has gotten the nickname of the “No Fun League” in the 21st century.
