Erling Haaland surpassed iconic pair Ronaldo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic as his extraordinary international record soared to new heights after scoring twice in Norway’s 3-2 win over Denmark in their UEFA Nations League opener.
Haaland was at the double for Norway, who squandered a two-goal lead before their superstar talisman settled the contest in the 74th minute on Friday (AEST).
The Manchester City superstar took his remarkable tally to 64 goals in just 56 appearances for his country, moving him past both Brazil legend Ronaldo and Sweden great Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who each finished their international careers with 62 goals.
Haaland first struck in the 18th minute as Norway raced out to a 2-0 lead before returning to score the winner with 16 minutes of regulation remaining after Denmark had fought back from two goals down, ensuring Norway opened their Nations League campaign with three points.
The 26-year-old has now scored 29 goals in his last 16 competitive international games for Norway. He is also the Nations League’s all-time leading goalscorer with 21 goals in 17 appearances.
It was Haaland’s first international match since his memorable FIFA World Cup debut.
In North America, Haaland scored seven goals to lead Norway to the quarter-finals after stunning five-time world champions Brazil.
He also tops the Premier League goalscoring charts in 2026-27, with five goals already through five rounds.
