Chelsea are reportedly keen on landing AFC Bournemouth’s Alex Scott, according to Caught Offside, as the Blues look to strengthen their midfield options in the New Year.
Scott arrived at the Vitality Stadium from Bristol City and needed time to adapt before hinting at his ability during the second half of last season. He featured 39 times across all competitions, contributing to five goals, and played a part in helping Bournemouth secure sixth place and a Europa League spot.
A Tough Start Under Rose
Since Andoni Iraola’s exit, life has been tougher for the Cherries under Marco Rose, with the club yet to taste Premier League victory this campaign. Scott has nonetheless impressed on a personal level, registering two goal involvements in six outings and earning his first England senior call-up.
Chelsea’s Midfield Gap
Despite cashing in on Enzo Fernández over the summer, Chelsea never brought in a direct replacement, leaving a gap that Enzo Maresca is eager to address. Caught Offside suggest the Blues could revisit their interest in Scott come January, though Bournemouth may prefer to delay any sale until the campaign ends.
Chelsea already tried to land the 23-year-old this summer with a formal bid, but the Cherries stood firm, pointing to his contract running until 2028. Should that pursuit stall, Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton is reportedly a fallback option.
Elsewhere, Chelsea’s interest in Monaco’s Lamine Camara cooled after a deadline-day move collapsed, reportedly frustrating the club. Liverpool have since emerged as suitors for the Frenchman following Curtis Jones’s departure.
Valued at roughly £43m by Transfermarkt, Scott’s versatility across box-to-box, defensive midfield and even attacking midfield roles makes him an attractive target. Personally, I think he’d slot into Maresca’s system well — his energy and progressive passing feel tailor-made for Chelsea’s build-up play, and at his age, there’s still plenty of room to grow.
