SANTA CLARA — [Nick Bosa](https://www.mercurynews.com/2026/09/20/49ers-nick-bosa-defense-dolphins-romello-height/) has no sacks through two games, but he’s had a positive presence in both [49ers’ wins](https://www.mercurynews.com/2026/09/24/nfl-puts-sf-49er-juszczyks-celebration-on-ice-say-it-looks-like-hes-chugging-a-beer/).
Thursday, there simply was no sign of Bosa, as he missed a second straight practice ahead of Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals.
“He’s been the most dominant player without a sack. He’s been awesome when he’s rushing the passer,” defensive coordinator Raheem Morris said. “The first play of the season was absolutely outstanding (with a hit on Matthew Stafford), and this past weekend, he chased around (Malik) Willis.
“He just forgot how to sack people, I joked with him this weekend,” Morris added. “Other than that, he’s been awesome. We’ll see what happens with him moving forward but he’s been playing great.”
Bosa did not practice most of August because of pain in his surgically repaired right knee. The eighth-year veteran and the 2022 NFL Defensive Player of the Year has lined up for 76-of-120 defensive snaps, totaled seven tackles, and been credited with just one quarterback hit.
**EVANS WORKS ON SIDE**
Wide receiver Mike Evans also missed a second straight practice, but he was seen working on the side. He suffered a mild hip injury making a 27-yard catch to the 1-yard line in Sunday’s highlight-reel pass from Brock Purdy.
Evans has caught 9-of-10 targets for 103 yards and a touchdown. Behind Evans and Deebo Samuel, the 49ers are sifting through their options now that they’re down Ricky Pearsall (knee), De’Zhaun Stribling (ankle), and, Demarcus Robinson (ankle). Both Robinson and defensive tackle James Thompson Jr. haven’t practiced this week becasue of Sunday’s high-ankle sprains.
**STOUT GETS HIGH PRAISE**
Upton Stout, a second-year nickel back, has made a strong first impression on Morris, who said: “He is a dog. Just watch last game. He is outstanding and was all over the place, our player of the game on defense.”
Stout totaled five tackles (one for loss), a half-sack, and a pass breakup. Added Morris: “He should have had a sack and a half, a bunch of tackles, tackles for loss, he’s all over the place. He’s physical. He’s an absolute dog.”
**BACK IN ACTION**
Running back Christian McCaffrey, left tackle Trent Williams, and linebacker Dre Greenlaw all practiced after not participating Wednesday, as is the planned protocol all season.
**CARDINALS INJURIES**
Defensive tackle Roy Lopez (groin) was the only Cardinals’ player to not practice. Quarterback Jacoby Brissett (hip) was a full participant. Limited were center Hjalte Froholdt (knee), cornerback Max Melton (toe), safety Dadrion Taylor-Demerson (back) and linebacker Mack Wilson (thumb).
