Man City Are Sweating Over Key Player’s Fitness Ahead Of Liverpool Clash

**Ghana FA president Kurt Okraku has confirmed that Man City winger Antoine Semenyo has not linked up with the national team due to a leg injury.**

The forward was named in the squad for Ghana’s African Cup of Nations qualifiers against the Ivory Coast and Gambia (as well as a friendly versus Morocco), but Okraku says the player will remain in Manchester to undergo treatment:

“Antoine and the coach spoke. He told the coach, ‘If you need me, I will come down for the medical team to re-examine me. But the truth is that my leg is swollen, and we need to treat it’.”

“As a leader, if you want to know your players, and in this particular case, we know the players and how honest they are when it comes to situations like this, you’d have to ask yourself whether you’d allow Antoine to continue with his recovery and be ready for Man City and for Ghana during the next window, or have Antoine fly down to Ghana to undergo an MRI and then ask him to go back because he can’t play. His leg is swollen.”

Semenyo is a doubt to face Liverpool

------------------------------------

Enzo Maresca’s team travel to Anfield for their next Premier League fixture, so the 26-year-old has the best part of 3 weeks to recover full fitness.

At the moment, the exact prognosis has not been made public. It could be a minor knock or a more serious injury. Okraku’s comments don’t give us much of a hint.

Early Liverpool vs Man City team news

-------------------------------------

While Semenyo’s participation is an open question, Maresca already knows he will be without Phil Foden. The attacking midfielder is serving a three-match ban for violent conduct after his sending-off against [**Manchester United**](https://mancitynews.com/man-utd-vs-man-city-combined-xi/) earlier this month.

Liverpool, meanwhile, are hoping to have Federico Chiesa (back) available, but the game may come too soon for Giovanni Leoni, who needs to build up his match fitness after spending a year out with an ACL injury. Conor Bradley (knee) and Hugo Ekitike (Achilles) have already been ruled out of the fixture.
