The [Boston Red Sox](https://nesn.com/boston-red-sox) are hopeful that over the next couple of days, they'll get a definitive answer on what left-hander Garrett Crochet is going to look like in the playoffs. As of now, he's certainly out for the next four games, which will conclude the Red Sox's regular season.
As for when he could return, it seems possible he could be available for the Red Sox's expected series against the New York Yankees in the Wild Card round.
It's tough to know exactly what Crochet might look like at this stage, but if the Red Sox put him on the mound, they'll have a lot of confidence that he's healthy. Even if his stuff isn't what it usually is, the bigger focus needs to be keeping Crochet healthy.
Speaking to reporters about how he looks, Chad Tracy provided an update about the left-hander, adding that the weather made it difficult to arrange live batting practice against hitters.
“Garrett felt pretty good today, which is encouraging,” said the Red Sox manager, [per](https://www.masslive.com/redsox/2026/09/garrett-crochet-wont-pitch-in-regular-season-game-heres-why-red-sox-wont-rule-out-postseason-role.html) MassLive. “He felt pretty good (today), all things considered. That was his first real intense live (batting practice).”
“With the weather, where are we doing (a live BP)?” wondered Tracy. “But the next step would be another live this weekend. (We’re just) figuring out what that’s going to be and where it’s going to be.”
The weather was something to consider this weekend, though there were other ways for the Red Sox to get a good feel for what Crochet can do on the mound. Facing hitters will be a step in the right direction and build Boston's confidence.
Reports have indicated he will head down to Fort Myers to get some work in against hitters.
"The left-hander originally was set to throw the live BP at Fenway Park, but with a Nor’easter expected to hit this weekend, the Red Sox decided to move it to their spring training complex," Mass Live reported.
