Everton stance clear as Liverpool ‘work on’ Jarrad Branthwaite move

Everton reportedly have no plans to sell Jarrad Branthwaite to Liverpool amid claims their Merseyside rivals are monitoring the England defender.

Everton have seen speculation around Branthwaite increase again following his excellent start to the season, which has also earned the 24-year-old a recall to Thomas Tuchel’s England squad.

Football Insider claims Liverpool are watching Branthwaite closely as they consider potential long-term successors to Virgil van Dijk.

Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown told the outlet that Liverpool are carrying out due diligence on Branthwaite and believe he “ticks a lot of boxes” as they assess left-sided centre-backs. There is no suggestion that Liverpool have made an approach or submitted an offer.

Everton stance clear on Branthwaite

TEAMtalk’s own information provides the more significant part of the story from an Everton perspective.

The outlet reports that Branthwaite remains a crucial part of David Moyes’ plans and is not for sale, with Everton currently not considering allowing him to leave in 2027. That position is strengthened by the long-term contract Branthwaite signed last year, which runs until 2030 and leaves Everton under no immediate pressure to make a decision over his future.

Moyes made keeping the centre-back one of his priorities after returning to the club in January 2025, and Branthwaite has since underlined his importance with an impressive start to the new campaign. TEAMtalk adds that it would probably require a record-breaking offer for Everton to reconsider their position, while selling one of their leading players to Liverpool would bring an obvious additional complication.

For now, the Liverpool interest appears to be at the monitoring and due-diligence stage rather than anything more advanced.

Everton’s position, according to TEAMtalk, is considerably simpler: Branthwaite remains a key part of Moyes’ plans and they aren’t considering selling him in 2027.
