Chelsea are reportedly among several leading European clubs monitoring highly-rated Gambian midfielder Adama Jeng.
The 15-year-old has attracted attention following his performances for Gambia at the WAFU Zone A Under-17 tournament in Senegal.
Bayern Munich, Benfica and Sporting are also understood to be tracking the teenager as competition begins to build around one of West Africa’s emerging prospects.
Chelsea have not made an offer, but their interest fits the club’s continued focus on identifying young talent before players establish themselves in Europe’s leading leagues.
Chelsea monitoring Adama Jeng
Chelsea are tracking Jeng’s development after scouts were impressed by his performances for Gambia Under-17s, according to reports detailing the growing European interest.
The midfielder came through the academy at Samger FC and has been described as one of the leading prospects in Gambian football.
Jeng stands around 6ft 2in and operates predominantly in central midfield.
His performances at international youth level have also attracted interest from Bayern, Benfica, Sporting, Monaco and Union Saint-Gilloise.
There is currently no indication that Chelsea have submitted a formal bid or begun negotiations.
Chelsea continue long-term recruitment strategy
Interest in Jeng would continue a familiar Chelsea recruitment pattern.
The Blues have increasingly attempted to identify players at an early stage of their development rather than waiting for their values to rise after a breakthrough in senior European football.
That approach operates alongside Chelsea’s established Cobham academy and loan pathway, where young players are assessed through academy football, senior training and development loans.
The club have also continued to invest heavily in younger players outside their own academy.
That strategy has produced mixed outcomes, but Chelsea remain committed to building a long-term pipeline of talent capable of either reaching the first team or increasing significantly in value.
Jeng is still several years away from being considered a realistic Premier League option.
FIFA regulations also place restrictions on international transfers involving players under the age of 18, meaning any potential move would require careful planning around his age and development.
For now, Chelsea’s involvement should be regarded as scouting interest rather than an imminent transfer.
However, with several major European clubs already watching him, Jeng is another name likely to feature prominently in Chelsea’s long-term recruitment discussions.
