Lewis Hall said he made the decision to stay at Newcastle United just after his “first conversation” with Matthias Jaissle.
The German arrived at the club on August 5th, more than a month before Hall signed a new contract with the Magpies, which ended speculation about his future, and the left-back said that he stopped contemplating a departure once he had spoken to the new manager:
“You can tell he is a great coach and has great staff as well. Ever since I had the first conversation with him [Jaissle], I knew that my head was definitely to stay here.”
“As a team, I believe we’ve got so much we can achieve this season. If we can combine everything together, we can have a great season.”
Hall and Howe didn’t get on
Based on those remarks, it’s clear that the left-back was open to leaving St James’ Park right until Eddie Howe’s departure from the club.
It has been claimed that Hall was not happy with how his former manager treated him at the end of last season when he was taken off at halftime in one game and deployed at right-back in another.
From then on, a sale seemed likely, with Manchester United heavily linked with the former Chelsea defender, but it seems everything changed after Jaissle’s appointment at the start of August.

Newcastle will keep him on one condition
Signing a new deal doesn’t necessarily guarantee that Hall will stay for the long term, even though he has said that he was a Magpies fan growing up.
Speaking in another interview earlier this week, the fullback revealed that his future at the club will ultimately be determined by the club achieving its ambitions.
