Manchester City have reportedly been found guilty of almost all allegations of financial wrongdoing levelled at them by the Premier League.

The 115 charges, which Man City have always strongly denied in full, were first published in February 2023. They broadly fit into three categories: illicit financing, non-cooperation, and the breaking of Premier League and UEFA finance rules.

The Athletic claims Man City have been found guilty on all but one of the 115 charges by an independent panel. Punishments have not yet been decided - and nothing has yet been ruled out - but the club is expected to appeal whatever is handed to them.

Potential punishments include fines, a points deduction and Premier League expulsion. It could be a combination.

What impact this could have on rival clubs, including Leeds United, seeking compensation from Man City remains unknown at this early stage, given that the punishments have not been tabled.

A spokesperson for Manchester City told The Athletic: “The Premier League process remains ongoing, with significant elements to be completed, and subject to strict confidentiality. As such Manchester City FC’s position remains consistent with the club’s statement of February 2023.

“The club has diligently respected due process for eight years on the basis that the Premier League board and executive would behave as an independent, impartial and fair-minded regulator, free from partisan influence.”
