GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) - U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin is using Thursday’s primetime football game to make her case for changing how fans across Wisconsin can watch the Green Bay Packers.
The Thursday game was streamed nationally on Amazon Prime video, while fans in the Green Bay and Milwaukee television markets could also watch for free on local television.
Elsewhere in Wisconsin, fans needed access to Amazon’s paid streaming service.
For bars and restaurants outside the Green Bay and Milwaukee markets, showing streaming-only games can come with an even bigger price tag.
Baldwin’s “For the Fans Act” would require professional sports leagues to provide one free option for fans to watch teams based in their state -- either streaming over over-the-air.
It would also end blackouts on league-owned streaming services.
“While watching sports unites us, so does the frustration of how difficult it is to do and how costly it is to do these days, so there’s a lot of public support for the Fans Act,” Sen. Baldwin, a Democrat, said.
The Packers will play another Thursday night game on Oct. 29. That game will also be available on Amazon Prime video, but you can watch all Thursday night football broadcasts on [Twitch.tv/primevideo](https://Twitch.tv/primevideo) for free in a web browser.
