After news that Manchester City have been found guilty of 114 of the 115 charges being levelled at them by the Premier League on Friday, a lot of Liverpool fans’ thoughts will have turned to Jurgen Klopp.
The former Reds manager was back in the dugout for the first time in more than two years on Thursday as he kicked off his reign of the German national team, but Klopp will forever be most remembered for his stint at Anfield between 2015 and 2024.
That incredibly successful spell would have been even more trophy-laden had it not been for City, who were officially breaking the rules on a systematic basis. As the Premier League prepare to punish the Citizens, the possibility of some of their titles being stripped remains on the table. With Liverpool potentially in line to benefit from this, Klopp was asked before he left the Reds if he would celebrate any such decision.
Klopp would come back to Liverpool for a title parade
Though many fans are surmising that Liverpool could win as many as three more Premier League crowns if City’s are taken off them and awarded to whoever came second that season, the truth is that the Reds would only be given one more.
Furthermore, the one they would get would not be for Klopp’s time at Anfield, with the charging relating to the period between 2009 and 2018. Liverpool came second once to City in that time, during Brendan Rodgers’ reign in 2013/14.
Nevertheless, as journalist James Pearce recalled after the verdict on Friday, Klopp was all for coming back to celebrate if Liverpool are given another Premier League win.
“Klopp’s Liverpool lost out to Man City in both the 18/19 & 21/22 title races by a solitary point,” Pearce posted on X.

“When asked after his departure in 2024 about the possibility of City being stripped of titles, Klopp said: “If you organise a bus parade, I am in! How long it takes I don’t care!””
Klopp actually expanded on his views in January 2025, insisting that he would host a party at his home in Mallorca instead.
“We had this discussion when I left,” the German told ESPN. “I haven’t spent a lot of time in Mallorca because I am always flying around the place. But if it would happen, I told all the people who wanted to [come]: ‘Just book a flight to Mallorca. I will buy the beer!’ We’d have our own parade in my garden.”
Whether Klopp will get the chance to hold his own mini-parade may not be clear for some time, as the Premier League debate the punishment for City, who could still appeal. But if it does come to that, you can be sure there will plenty of people reminding the former boss of his promise.
