Reis makes international bow as Brazil draw with Australia

City defender Vitor Reis made his senior international debut as Brazil recorded a dramatic 95th minute goal to salvage a 1-1 friendly draw away to Australia.

The Blues’ central defender produced an assured maiden display at the heart of the Brazilian back line where he partnered skipper Marquinhos, figuring for 76 minutes in total.

It proved an open and entertaining clash in Townsville in what was the first of two consecutive friendlies between the nations.

The hosts broke the deadlock midway through the second half thanks to a superb 68th minute free kick from Sporting’s Nestory Irankunda.

It looked as if that effort would be enough to earn the Socceroos a famous and only second-ever win against the five-time world champions.

However, Carlo Ancelotti’s side summoned up a furious late response and forced a dramatic leveller in the fifth minute of stoppage time through Bournemouth winger Rayan’s pinpoint header.

The two sides meet again on Tuesday morning in the second of their September friendlies.
