Former Liverpool defender Jose Enrique believes he should receive a Premier League winner's medal in the wake of the landmark Manchester City verdict.

‌

City has faced ongoing scrutiny, standing accused of 115 violations of the Premier League's financial regulations. Reports emerged on Friday indicating that all top-flight clubs had been notified that City would be deemed guilty of 114 charges. The Premier League has yet to officially announce the guilty verdict, but multiple outlets have reported it. City has previously denied any wrongdoing.

‌

At present, no sanction has been imposed, though a financial penalty, points deduction and removal from the division have all been mooted as possibilities.

Enrique — who was part of Liverpool's squad during the 2013/14 Premier League campaign, when Liverpool finished second to City — has reacted to the news on social media. He wrote on X: "Thank you premier league and send me the medal soon too."

Rio Ferdinand has also commented on the update. The former Manchester United defender Ferdinand reckons City should be stripped of certain titles, which would secure the ex-center-back an additional winners' medal.

Posting on X in reaction to the developments, Ferdinand declared: "Another premier league medal to be added to the cabinet."

Ferdinand then put forward the idea that the campaigns where the Red Devils came second under Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in 2017/18 and 2020/21 should likewise be transformed into United championship triumphs.

Posting photographs of the two former managers, he added: "And another for Jose.... And another for Ole."

Ferdinand's jest follows his earlier criticism in 2024, when he lambasted the length of the proceedings.

He said: "When is this going to get sorted out? Because everybody else's cases seem to be getting sorted out mighty, mighty quick."

City has already issued a response to reports claiming the club has been found guilty.

A statement read: "The Premier League process remains ongoing, with significant elements to be completed, and subject to strict confidentiality.

"As such Manchester City FC's position remains consistent with the club's statement of February 2023.

"The club has diligently respected due process for eight years on the basis the Premier League board and executive would behave as an independent, impartial and fair minded regulator, free from partisan influence."
