Liverpool legend Andy Robertson has refused to put any blame on Manchester City’s players after it was reported the club will be found guilty of 114 Premier League charges.
The Scotland captain was at Anfield when Jurgen Klopp’s side finished second to City in 2013/14 and were regular challengers to Pep Guardiola’s team.
While on international duty, he was stunned to hear that it’s expected to be announced that Manchester City breached financial rules during that period.
The ramifications are set to be significant and all other Premier League clubs have been notified.
Robertson and his Liverpool side had some famous battles for the title with City but - after hearing the news - he insisted that Guardiola’s players won fairly on the pitch.
The Scotland skipper said: “I think you can hear the shock in my voice, I haven’t actually seen the news.
“The case has obviously been going on.
“For me, the (Man City) players showed they were good enough on the pitch.
“I don’t know too much about the charges and stuff like that.
“But they had an incredible team, one that I loved battling against.
“I don’t think when it comes to these things that players are ever to blame.
“That’s all I can focus on.”
