‘Well Placed Premier League Source’ Reveals What Man City’s Most Likely FFP Punishment Will Be
Rival Premier League clubs are “expecting” Man City to be fined for their breaches of Financial Fair Play regulations, rather than receiving a points deduction or relegation, according to reports.
TEAMtalk claim they have spoken to a “well-placed Premier League source”, who has told them what might happen if City fail with their appeal on the guilty verdict:
“This is clearly a huge story, and fans everywhere will be clamouring and maybe expecting relegation and huge points deductions, but from what we are hearing as a club, we are expecting a fine at this point. But we have to see how things play out.”

Such a decision would be extremely controversial, as other Premier League teams have been given points deductions for far fewer breaches.
A lot has to happen before any punishment is handed out to City
The Cityzens can’t go to the Court of Arbitration for Sport as they did with the UEFA case a few years ago, but an Appeals Board will be set up. Premier League rules state that:
“The Appeal Board has wide discretion in respect of the appeal, and may allow it, dismiss it, or make any order that it deems fit.”
How will it affect the current Premier League season?
Until the appeal is heard, everything will continue as usual for now, but if the decision still goes in the Premier League’s favour, it will then be up to the commission to determine what sort of punishment is meted out.
While clubs may be predicting that a fine is the most likely outcome, they won’t be making the final decision.
Any points deduction would come into effect this season, and the commission may opt for that punishment over an expulsion from the top flight due to it being midseason. If the points deduction is large enough, it would effectively mean relegation anyway.
