Watford are lacking competition and depth in the middle of the park at this moment in time.
Watford should delve into the free agent market to bring more cover in their midfield department. It has been a tough start to the new Championship season for the Hertfordshire outfit and they are only three points above the relegation zone.
The Hornets should swoop to sign Sam Rak-Sakyi on a free transfer following his summer exit from Chelsea. He cut ties with the Premier League giants at the end of June when his deal at Stamford Bridge expired and he continues to weigh up his next move in the game.

Two goals and facing Manchester United: How one of Sheffield United’s AI flops is faring after 2026 exit
Rak-Sakyi, 21, would be a good long-term addition for Alessio Dionisi’s side and could inject more quality into their ranks. His brother, Jesurun, is on the books of Crystal Palace but is currently out on loan at Kasimpasa in Turkey after spending time at Stoke City in the last campaign.
Watford have won only two of their first eight fixtures and lost 1-0 away at Bristol City last time out before the international break. Pressure could start to grow on Dionisi already given their sacking record and they take on struggling Burnley next on 10th October.
Watford should sign Sam Rak-Sakyi after Chelsea exit
Watford haven’t replaced Imran Louza and could do with another body in his position. Rak-Sakyi could battle it out with Edo Kayembe and Hector Kyprianou for a place in Dionisi’s starting XI.
At the age of 21, he has potential to grow and improve down the line. He is someone who the Hornets could develop and then sell on in the future.
Rak-Sakyi rose up through Chelsea’s academy so he has some decent pedigree behind him and he was a regular for the London club at various different youth levels as a teenager. He penned a contract extension back in 2024.
The England youth international made his first-team debut for the Blues in the same year in a Europa Conference League clash against FC Noah. He went on to make a further three appearances before heading out the exit door.

The Verdict: Watford should take gamble on Sam Rak-Sakyi
Although he hasn’t played too much senior football, Rak-Sakyi would be worth a gamble by Watford. The Hornets can provide him with a platform to get some regular game time under his belt in the EFL and to show what he can do.
You don’t play four times for Chelsea at the top level unless you have something about you. He was linked with a switch to Coventry City last August under Frank Lampard but nothing materialised in the end. Sheffield Wednesday were also said to have taken a look last term.
