Of course, it’s still Everton’s fault…

Manchester City’s long-running financial case blew up again yesterday, and Evertonians were immediately confronted with the obvious question.

How many points will Everton be deducted for this?

The Everton connection is obvious. If there are points to be deducted, Everton *must* be involved.

Reports emerged on Friday that City had been found guilty of all but one of the 115 charges brought against them by the Premier League. The judgment hasn’t been published, and City maintain that the process remains ongoing, with significant elements still to be completed.

Naturally, Everton must be implicated.

Currys take action against Everton

The Blues lost eight points across two PSR cases during the 2023/24 season and have since developed a useful secondary role in English football.

Whenever another club encounters financial trouble, somebody asks when Everton’s points deduction will be announced. Evertonians have been making that joke for some time. Judging by social media, everybody else has now caught up.

Currys certainly have.

The retailer issued an “OFFICIAL CURRYS STATEMENT” announcing:

“We’ve taken the decision to ban Everton from all Currys stores within a 5 mile radius of the Etihad.”

So there we have it.

More than 100 reported guilty findings against Manchester City, an unpublished judgment, no punishment yet announced and an appeal expected. Everton, meanwhile, have been dealt with. At the time of writing, their Premier League points total remains unchanged.

Anyone requiring a new kettle within five miles of the Etihad may not be so fortunate.
