Chelsea Handed Fresh Injury Concern as Jamie Gittens Forced Off for England U21s

Chelsea have been handed a fresh fitness concern after Jamie Gittens was forced off injured during England Under-21s’ 4-2 victory over Kazakhstan.

The winger started on the left at Molineux and caused repeated problems during an encouraging opening half-hour.

However, Gittens required treatment before being replaced by Tyrique George in the 39th minute.

The nature and severity of the problem have not yet been confirmed.

Jamie Gittens forced off for England U21s

England’s official match report confirmed Gittens went off injured before half-time.

Sky Sports’ live commentary also recorded the substitution as injury-enforced, having noted Gittens receiving treatment moments earlier.

That makes his condition another situation for Chelsea to monitor during an international break which has already produced several availability concerns.

Gittens is one of the players listed in our Chelsea international-break tracker, with England U21s due to face Slovakia next Friday.

Chelsea await fitness update

The timing is frustrating for Gittens as he continues fighting for a larger role under Xabi Alonso.

He entered the season determined to establish himself at Stamford Bridge after confirming his Chelsea future following talks with Alonso.

Chelsea do at least have time before returning to Premier League action against Bournemouth on 10 October.

For now, there is no indication of how long Gittens could be unavailable.

His involvement in England’s remaining fixtures should provide the first clue as to whether Friday’s withdrawal was precautionary or a more significant setback.
