**Everton supporters have already discovered what happens when the Premier League decides a financial breach is worthy of a sporting punishment.**
So, naturally, somebody has now applied the Blues’ experience to Manchester City’s reported guilty findings – and arrived at 684 points.
Reports on Friday claimed City had been found guilty on 114 of the 115 charges brought against them by the Premier League. No punishment has been announced, and City maintain that the process remains ongoing, with an appeal expected.
None of that has stopped the calculators coming out.
One social-media post used the six-point deduction imposed on [Everton](https://readeverton.com/) following their first Profitability and Sustainability Rules case as the starting point.
Six points multiplied by City’s 114 reported guilty findings gives us **684 points**. At three points for a win, City would therefore need **228 consecutive Premier League victories** simply to get back to zero.
Or, put another way, six perfect 38-game Premier League seasons. There is one fairly significant problem with the calculation: that isn’t how disciplinary sanctions work.
Everton’s first PSR case initially resulted in a 10-point deduction before the punishment was reduced to six on appeal. The Blues were subsequently deducted another two points following a separate PSR breach, leaving them eight points worse off during the 2023/24 season.
City’s case involves different alleged breaches across different rules and periods. There is no basis for simply attaching Everton’s six-point sanction to each of the 114 reported findings.
The 684-point figure can therefore be filed firmly under social-media mathematics rather than Premier League precedent.
What punishment City could eventually receive remains unknown. The commission’s judgment has not been published, no sanction has been announced, and the process is expected to continue through an appeal.
After losing eight points themselves in 2023/24, Everton supporters can probably be forgiven for enjoying the arithmetic while it lasts.
