Through the first two games, the Saints are showing signs of improvement in pass defense, but stopping the run is still a bit of an issue, as they are allowing an astounding 5.0 yards per carry. That’s an area that will need to be addressed in the offseason by adding additional personnel. It is only Week 3, so a lot of things can change. Here are some players to watch in college football with a great slate of games on Saturday.
Justin Scott, a defensive lineman from Miami, is a 6’4”, 303-pound interior lineman who, for his size, is unbelievably quick. He has a really great first step and was an anchor for the Miami defense that helped lead the Hurricanes to the 2025 national championship. So far this season, Scott has 5 total tackles and a PFF grade of 70. Miami will face Central Michigan at 5:30 p.m. on The CW.
Another defensive lineman to watch this week will be Will Echoles from Ole Miss. Coming off an absolutely dominant performance against LSU last week, it will be fun to watch how he follows it up against a gritty, run-heavy Florida team. Echoles is currently ranked as a top-15 player on the big board and is widely considered to be the first interior defensive lineman who could be drafted.
Ole Miss finds itself as the underdog as the Rebels/Landsharks/Black Bears travel to Gainesville for a 2:30 p.m. kickoff on ABC. Another big performance from Echoles will be needed to help keep their undefeated season intact.
Finally, A’mauri Washington is a name to watch. He is currently trending up big boards and is the No. 21-ranked player. Washington is another interior defensive lineman who plays for the University of Oregon.
Washington does not have the flashy stats, but the athleticism is off the charts. This is a 6’3”, 303-pound lineman who can run 21 miles per hour, squat 755 pounds and bench press 475 pounds. Washington has the physical ability, but he is still a prospect who will need to showcase continued development as the season progresses.
Oregon is on the road in a major Big Ten matchup against USC. If the Ducks lose this game, their playoff hopes could be over. This game is set for a 6:30 p.m. kickoff on NBC.
Who are some players you are excited to watch this weekend, and through two games, what areas would you like to see the Saints improve throughout the season?
