Seahawks Rank Dead Last in the League in this Key Metric
No need to be worried though, I am of course talking about the key metric that is the amount of dead cap a team is carrying.
According to Spotrac the average team this year is carrying just over $48 million in dead cap with 17 teams carrying at least $41 million. There are only five teams in the NFL carrying less than $15 million: The Rams, Bengals, Chargers, Broncos, and Seahawks.
The Seahawks are ranked dead last, 32nd of 32, carrying a paltry $3.3 million in dead cap with the vast majority of that number stemming from camp bodies and tryouts. In other words the only dead cap they have is an amount that is virtually unavoidable for any team in the league.
To put it in perspective the $45 million delta from their dead cap to league average is roughly the equivalent to this year's combined cap hit of Demarcus Lawrence, EJIV, Julian Love, and Charles Cross (~$47.5m). Oh, and they still have $13 million in unused cap space to play with just in case John wants to swing a midseason trade for something special.
Needless to say, the Seahawks roster is currently sitting in about as optimal a cap position as it possibly could be.
