Kansas City Chiefs: Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce predicted to take backseat to offensive star in Week 3 1
The Kansas City Chiefs are hitting the road for the first time this season. After winning their first two games at home to start the year 2-0 (after finishing 2025 6-11), Kansas City will head south to take on the Miami Dolphins. This matchup is between a team in the Chiefs who are looking to return to Super Bowl relevance and a Dolphins team that is in the beginning stages of a rebuild.
Indeed, anything can happen on any given Sunday in the NFL. On paper, this should be a game that Kansas City wins rather easily (or, as easily as any team can win in the league). This has led to a pretty bold prediction regarding running back Kenneth Walker III.

The two biggest starts on the Chiefs’ offense, of course, are quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce. Mahomes, a three-time Super Bowl MVP, is off to a great start with 566 passing yards, five touchdowns, and one interception. Kelce, one of the top-three tight ends of all time, has 12 receptions for 172 yards and a touchdown already.
However, both of them are predicted by ESPN to take a backseat to Walker on Sunday. In their weekly predictions, they stated Walker is one player that could explode for three touchdowns against the Dolphins:
“Walker scored twice in the Chiefs’ Week 1 win over the Broncos (one rushing, one receiving), plus he’s averaging 23.5 carries and 4.5 receptions per game. Those are big numbers for someone who was part of a committee approach in Seattle. Let’s take Walker to score Sunday versus a Dolphins defense that has already surrendered eight touchdowns.”
Walker, playing in his first season with the Chiefs, is the reigning Super Bowl MVP after winning a ring with the Seattle Seahawks last season. He currently has 290 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown, leading the NFL with 145.0 yards per game. Walker also has nine receptions for 79 yards and another score.
Miami’s defense, despite being called by defensive-minded head coach Jeff Hafley, is not very good. They are currently 0-2 and are huge underdogs against Kansas City despite playing at home.
If there was ever a game in which Walker could score three touchdowns, this certainly seems like one primed for him.
