State police advised the public that enhanced aviation safety and security measures will be in place during the Steelers game against Cincinnati at 1 p.m. Sunday at Acrisure Stadium.
As part of the security measures for the game, a temporary flight restriction (TFR) will be in effect in the vicinity of the North Side stadium, the state police announced in a statement. The restriction establishes a 3-nautical-mile radius TFR around the stadium that extends to 3,000 feet above ground level.
The TFR will become effective at noon Sunday and will end one hour after the conclusion of the game.
During a TFR, drones are prohibited from operating within the restricted airspace during the effective period of the TFR.
All drone flights within the TFR are prohibited unless specifically authorized or otherwise permitted by the Federal Aviation Administration, and in accordance with the applicable Notice to Airmen.
The state police will coordinate with appropriate federal, state and local public safety partners and will conduct Counter-Unmanned Aircraft Systems (C-UAS) operations in support of public safety, according to the release.
Any unauthorized drone detected within the restricted airspace will prompt an immediate law enforcement response, according to the release.
Members of the public are reminded:
• Do not fly a drone within the TFR unless specifically authorized.
• Check current FAA airspace restrictions before operating any UAS.
• Unauthorized drone operations may result in enforcement action under applicable federal and state law, including potential criminal prosecution and civil penalties.
• Anyone who observes a suspicious or unauthorized drone operating near the stadium should immediately report it to law enforcement personnel.
State police said it encourages all drone operators to plan accordingly and comply with all applicable FAA requirements, adding that the safety of spectators, participants and the surrounding community remains the highest priority.
