The Los Angeles Chargers have no intention of trading quarterback Justin Herbert. However, an NFL insider believes that stance could eventually change if their season spirals out of control, as many NFL experts believe it could.
When LA fans saw the Arizona Cardinals and the Las Vegas Raiders on the Chargers’ 2026 schedule to begin the new season, they expected a 2-0 start. However, to the surprise of many around the NFL, they enter Week 3 with a 0-2 record after some poor play from both the offense and defense after two games.

Making matters worse, the Chargers have a nightmare next seven weeks of games against some of the best teams in the league. It isn’t out of the realm of possibility that they have a 0-9 record later this season. It is why surprising speculation has emerged that the team might consider trading their star QB before this season’s trade deadline.
It is a radical idea, but since the sixth overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft arrived, the Chargers have reached the playoffs three times, and they have all been Wild Card round losses. He’s had injury issues in recent seasons. He has a ton of money left on his five-year, $262.5 million contract. And the 2027 QB draft class is very strong.

However, according to Tom Pelissero, “The Chargers have no plans anytime soon to trade quarterback Justin Herbert, who has a no-trade clause that could scuttle any deal anyway.” And coach Jim Harbaugh’s response to the recent struggles will be “more work, more effort—more everything.”
But the NFL insider couldn’t help but admit that desperate times could lead to a radical response if the Chargers season does go to dark places in the weeks ahead.
