A new report from a prominent NFL insider offers the latest on Jayden Daniels getting back on the field soon for the Washington Commanders despite his elbow injury.
Week 2 of the NFL schedule was a bad week for quarterbacks. Three different starters suffered notable injuries, with the New York Giants being the worst hit after Jaxson Dart suffered a knee injury that will end his season. However, despite some fears, it seems unlikely that the Commanders’ QB1 will join his NFC East contemporary.
According to Tom Pelissero, “Several specialists [Daniels] visited this week agreed he didn’t need surgery immediately and was at minimal risk of making the injury worse.” However, the NFL insider notes that while he can play through the elbow issue — which he also had last year — it doesn’t mean it will be easy and will test him physically and mentally.
Pelissero also added in his report that the Commanders QB “is expected to wear a bigger brace than the one he used last season to try to mitigate the chances of further issues.” Although everything seems in place for a return to action and he hasn’t been ruled out of their game in Week 4, surgery is very likely, but it will probably be pushed back until after the season.
“There’s a strong chance he’ll have surgery after the season to tighten the elbow. But that’s Daniels’s decision and may not be finalized anytime soon,” Pelissero reports.

Earlier this week, Hall of Famer Kurt Warner revealed he dislocated his elbow just like the Commanders QB two decades ago, and detailed some of the adjustments Daniels may need to make once he is back under center in an NFL game.
“I suffered the exact same injury back in ’07, and I played the next week,” Warner said on NFL on ESPN. “I braced it up, obviously a couple shots along the way, I had to hand the football off with my right hand in both directions, but this to me is something, because it’s the left arm, if he wants to play through that, and get back out there and help his team, I believe he can.
“… Does it affect his movement, does it affect his running or some of the things they want to do by design? Maybe, but I do believe this is something he can come back from. Because it’s the left arm, I don’t think it’s something we worry about long-term and go, ‘Should we extend this guy, because he’s had this type of injury twice?’”
