Ronald Araujo’s impressive start at Liverpool could now have a major say in what happens to his future, with Mundo Deportivo reporting that the defender is already beginning to convince the club over a potential permanent move.

The Uruguay international joined Liverpool from Barcelona on loan until the end of the season, with the agreement including a €55 million option to buy.

That option is not mandatory, meaning Liverpool are under no obligation to keep Araujo beyond the current campaign.

However, his performances so far are giving Andoni Iraola and the club’s sporting department plenty to consider.

Mundo Deportivo reports that Araujo performing well in his first few appearances for the Reds has been enough to make a positive impression at Anfield.

His adaptation has been particularly noteworthy because of the different roles Iraola has asked him to perform.

Araujo initially operated in his natural centre-back position, starting Premier League matches against Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest.

His responsibilities have since expanded considerably.

Iraola has trusted the 27-year-old at right-back against Ipswich Town, Fulham and Bournemouth, while he also started there against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League and Tottenham in the EFL Cup.

That versatility could prove particularly important when Liverpool eventually assess whether to activate the €55m purchase option.

Rather than simply providing cover in central defence, Araujo has shown that he can give Iraola another reliable option on the right side as well.

The defender’s performance against Atletico Madrid was another notable moment in his early Liverpool spell.

Araujo impressed against Diego Simeone’s side and produced a memorable backheel assist, further strengthening the feeling that he is adapting quickly to his new surroundings.

Iraola has also praised Araujo’s ability to operate in different positions and expressed his satisfaction with the defender’s performances and attitude since arriving at Anfield.

For Araujo, the move to England was an opportunity to secure a prominent role after an uncertain period at Barcelona.

So far, he has taken that opportunity.

Barcelona still hold Araujo’s long-term contract until 2031, meaning the Catalan club remain in a strong contractual position.

Liverpool, however, have the option to change the situation permanently if they decide the defender has done enough.

There is no decision to make yet, and much can still change before the end of the season.

But if Araujo continues performing at his current level while proving capable of covering multiple defensive positions, Liverpool could find themselves increasingly interested in making the loan permanent.

Mundo Deportivo’s latest report suggests that possibility is already becoming a genuine talking point.

For now, Araujo’s task is simple, and its to keep performing and give Liverpool an increasingly difficult decision to make when the season reaches its final stages.
