The Chicago Bears finally got some good news about their quarterbacks as the latest Tyson Bagent injury update is that the backup QB has cleared concussion protocol and could be available to play in Week 3 against the Philadelphia Eagles. If Caleb Williams' hamstring keeps him out of this game and Bagent can play, he will get the nod over Case Keenum.
“Bears QB Tyson Bagent has cleared concussion protocol and is practicing today ahead of Monday night’s game vs the Eagles,” ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on Saturday.
Bagent still has milestones to hit before he can play in this game, though, so Keenum is still an option to start this game.
“While Tyson Bagent was cleared to practice today, he needs to go consecutive days without symptoms after practicing before he is technically and fully cleared from concussion protocol,” Schefter clarified, before adding, “To update: Tyson Bagent has cleared the necessary steps to practice today. He has not officially cleared protocol and he is not officially ruled out of Monday night’s game.”
The Bears-Eagles game is on Monday night, though, so we may not have the final word on who the Chicago starter will be until after all the other NFL games are played on Sunday.
Tyson Bagent is 2-2 in his career as a starter, with all four games coming back in 2023. The Bears' backup QB came on in relief of Caleb Williams last week and finished the game 5-of-9 passing for 54 yards as Chicago lost to the Minnesota Vikings 9-3.
