Everton news: Goodison hosts Game4Hope as England trio await Spain

Goodison Park is back in the spotlight this evening, with Game4Hope underway as a collection of Everton favourites return to their former home for a charity match in aid of Everton in the Community and Shelter.

Away from Goodison, Jordan Pickford, Jarrad Branthwaite and James Garner could all be involved when England face Spain at Wembley tonight, while Friday brought victories for several of the club’s younger internationals.

Here are Saturday’s Everton news and talking points.

Cahill and Everton favourites back at Goodison

Game4Hope kicked off at 4.45pm today and is scheduled to be in its second half as this round-up is published.

Tim Cahill is captaining a Merseyside XI containing former Everton players including Leighton Baines, Phil Jagielka, Gareth Barry, Yakubu, Joleon Lescott and Louis Saha.

They are facing a Rest of the World squad featuring some distinguished names, with Rivaldo, Cafu, Clarence Seedorf and Jaap Stam among those announced for the event.

The game is raising money and awareness for Everton in the Community and Shelter, supporting their work with people experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness.

Pickford, Branthwaite and Garner await Spain

Once Game4Hope is over, Everton attention switches to Wembley.

Pickford, Branthwaite and Garner are all part of Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for tonight’s Nations League opener against world champions Spain.

Pickford goes into the game as England’s established No.1, Branthwaite is back in the senior squad and Garner received a late call following five withdrawals earlier this week.

Our Everton England trio preview has the full details ahead of the 7.45pm kick-off, including how to watch the game in the UK.

Armstrong, George and Dibling involved in England wins

Friday was already a good day for Everton’s younger England players.

Harrison Armstrong played 71 minutes as England Under-20s beat Italy 3-1 in Spain.

Tyrique George then came on after 39 minutes during the Under-21s’ 4-2 victory over Kazakhstan at Molineux, with Tyler Dibling introduced for the closing stages.

Mykolenko helps Ukraine to clean sheet

Vitalii Mykolenko completed the full 90 minutes as Ukraine opened their Nations League campaign with a 1-0 victory over Hungary in Budapest.

Danylo Sikan scored the only goal before half-time, with Mykolenko part of a Ukraine defence that held firm despite sustained Hungary pressure.

The left-back is next due in action when Ukraine travel to Georgia on Monday. Saturday evening therefore offers Everton supporters an unusual mixture.

Some familiar faces are back on the Goodison pitch, while three members of David Moyes’ current squad are preparing for England’s meeting with Spain at Wembley.
