Liverpool have made huge decision regarding new deal for hero who's a "joy to play with"

_“Mac Allister didn’t have his best season last year, not unlike a lot of the players at Anfield, but now he’s got just two years left on his deal. All Mac Allister can do right now is continue to impress, perform at a high level, but as things stand, it looks like he’s going to be left unhappy.”_

**Should Liverpool offer Alexis Mac Allister a new deal?**

----------------------------------------------------------

Mac Allister has started this season impressively for Liverpool, bouncing back from a poor 2025/26 campaign to be a big influence at the heart of Andoni Iraola’s midfield.

At 27, the Argentina World Cup winner may seem older than he is, but he is still in his peak years, and [Conor Bradley](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/its-joy-play-alexis-mac-allister-i-cant-praise-him-enough) has made it clear what he thinks of him in the past, saying:

_“He’s just an unbelievable footballer. I’ve never seen someone retain the ball so well. He’s so calm on the ball and he’s so composed. He’s just a wonderful footballer and he’s a joy to play with. I can’t praise him enough, to be honest.”_

As things stand, it does feel as though Mac Allister may not get the contract he craves, which would be a shame, given his return to somewhere near his best in recent months.

Giving him an extension would be a shrewd decision, with his technical ability, work ethic and winning mentality all key, but this may end up being his final season in a Liverpool shirt.

On current evidence, giving Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai new deals over Mac Allister feels like the wrong decision, with the pair needing to improve after unconvincing starts to the season, especially the former.
