Chelsea have been handed a fresh injury concern after Jamie Gittens appeared to suffer an ankle problem while representing England Under-21s against Kazakhstan. The winger started the qualifier but was forced off before half-time after picking up the injury.

‌

Gittens received treatment on the pitch and attempted to play on until the interval, but was ultimately withdrawn at the break. England Under-21s boss Lee Carsley later confirmed the Chelsea youngster would return to his club for further assessment.

‌

"Jamie got a kick on his ankle," the young Three Lions boss Lee Carsley said after the match.

‌

"We never take any risks. "With the age of these players we don’t ever keep them in camp to see how they are. He will go back."

The 22-year-old was later seen leaving Molineux on crutches, although Chelsea will hope the issue proves to be a minor one.

Gittens has spent much of the opening Premier League campaign on the bench, being named as an unused substitute in the first five fixtures, while making appearances in Carabao Cup ties against Luton Town and Leeds United.

Blues head coach Xabi Alonso is already managing a growing injury list that includes Joao Pedro and Cole Palmer.

Pedro was forced to withdraw from the Brazil squad after suffering a knee injury during Chelsea's clash with Hull City. The forward landed awkwardly and collided with the goal frame following a contested header at the back post.

Meanwhile, Palmer continues to deal with ongoing discomfort and a minor muscular issue, adding to Alonso's selection concerns ahead of the coming weeks.

Reece James (hamstring), Moises Caicedo (calf), Marco Palestra (knock) and Emmanuel Emegha (hamstring) remain sidelined.

When action resumes, Chelsea will be looking to respond to the disappointment of their 3-0 defeat at Brentford last time out. The result left them 10th in the Premier League table, with two wins, one draw and two defeats from their opening five matches.
