Los Angeles is 0-2 to open the season, dropping back-to-back 26-14 games at SoFi Stadium to the Arizona Cardinals and Las Vegas Raiders. Herbert has thrown two touchdowns and three interceptions over that stretch, a sharp drop from last season’s 3,727 passing yards and 11-6 finish under Harbaugh.
Former Super Bowl champion and 3x-Pro Bowler T.J. Ward used his appearance on the Speakeasy podcast to connect that decline directly to Herbert’s relationship with Beer, whom Herbert got engaged to in July.

“When you get a girl, the little extra time you demand spending on your craft, she’s demanding it. There’s going to be a downfall coming. You’re going to get worse,” Ward said on the podcast. “The time you’re on the couch watching film, she’s gonna be all up under you. The time you spend your Friday nights at home, she wants to go to dinner. The time you’re rehabbing or staying late in the facility, now you’ve got to go home and kick it with your girlfriend, especially if she’s famous. Now you’ve got cameras on you. Your offseason is in Europe and taking photoshoots.”
Ward closed with a direct warning aimed at Herbert, “As soon as you start having a lack of success, Justin, this girl, Beer, she’s using you, buddy. She’s going to be out of there. Get back on your craft. She’s ruining it.”
Ward’s comments landed hard online, but the timeline behind his claim tells a different story about how long Beer has actually been part of Herbert’s life.
Beer has been around Herbert all offseason
Beer’s presence around the team is not new. She was a constant fixture throughout the offseason and training camp, engaged to Herbert since July, with Harbaugh speaking about her presence in a positive light rather than treating it as a distraction.
Herbert has pointed to execution issues within the Chargers’ offense rather than anything happening off the field. A road trip to Buffalo now gives Los Angeles its next chance to turn the season around.
